Signicat launches 'Trust Rules', a podcast translating Europe's tightening digital trust regulations into practical business strategy

As Europe rewrites the rulebook on digital trust, the series cuts through the legal jargon to offer practical, technical insights for businesses operating in regulated sectors.

Signicat, Europe’s leading provider of digital identity solutions, today announced the launch of Trust Rules, a new podcast designed for everybody who wants to understand the implications of trust regulation.  As Europe rewrites the rulebook on digital trust, the series cuts through the legal jargon to offer practical, technical insights for businesses operating in regulated sectors.

Europe's regulatory framework is currently shifting gears at an unprecedented pace. In less than a year, the new European Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) will apply, overriding local laws with a single, directly applicable rulebook. Alongside this, the market is bracing for the mandatory acceptance of European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallets, a central pillar of the European Commission's target to provide 80% of citizens with a digital ID by 2030.

Rather than treating these changes as a mere box-ticking exercise, Trust Rules focuses on a sharper challenge: how companies can turn tightening compliance into a core business advantage. The podcast acts as a peer-to-peer forum, stepping away from dry lectures to map out exactly who is affected by these shifts and how product roadmaps need to adapt in response.

To bridge the gap between compliance and practical technology, Signicat has paired two distinct voices to host the show. Lucie Roulland is a self-described "regulation geek" with a strong legal background who works at the intersection of sales, marketing, and compliance. She is joined by Wil Janssen, an industry veteran and co-founder of the company behind ReadID, acquired by Signicat in 2025. With over 15 years of hands-on experience in identity verification and fraud prevention, Wil brings a sharp, logical, and tech-focused perspective to the microphone.

"We saw a need for a compact, focused conversation to translate the dense European digital trust regulations into practical action for businesses," said Lucie Roulland. "A podcast seemed like the perfect format to ask the real questions about conflicting regional rules and realistic implementation timelines. We need an open dialogue to build a secure digital Europe. After all, it’s a team sport".

Wil Janssen added: "We will challenge our guests to explain how the changing and tightening digital trust rules affect everyday business choices. We break down exactly who is affected, what the technical hurdles are, and how companies actually need to act".

The series kicks off with an introductory episode exploring why Europe takes such a distinct, regulated approach to digital identity compared to the rest of the world. Subsequent episodes feature the experts actively writing the standards. Jon Ølnes, VP of Digital Identity and Regulation at Signicat and ETSI Editor, will discuss the upcoming AMLR and the risk of individual member states fragmenting the single rulebook. Esther Makaay, Signicat's VP of Digital Identity and a leading contributor to the EUDI Wallet Large-Scale Pilots, will explore the imminent arrival of the digital identity wallet era and ask whether these wallets can truly be trusted from day one. The series will also explore key European regulations, including eIDAS 2.0, DORA, the EU AI Act, PSD3 and GDPR, with more topics to come.

Trust Rules officially launches on 17 September 2026, with two episodes released per month. The podcast will be available on all major directories, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
