Indeed reveals the UK’s best jobs for 2025

Teacher takes the top spot

  • Indeed reveals the 10 best jobs in the UK for 2025 based on factors that matter most to jobseekers - opportunity, demand and average salary
  • Top roles include: School teacher, property solicitor, and paediatrician
  • AI/Machine Learning engineer takes 10th spot, showing the increased demand for AI related roles

Global hiring platform Indeed today announces the UK’s best jobs of 2025, based on the factors that matter most to jobseekers - opportunity, demand and salary. It has analysed jobs with the biggest increase in job postings (2023 v 2024) on Indeed with an average salary above £37,430.

School teachers take the top spot for the largest increase in jobs advertised (with a 245% increase in share of jobs posted YoY), reflecting the ongoing “teacher and retention crisis” flagged by the National Education Union.

The Teacher Labour Market in England Annual Report 2024 revealed that secondary initial teacher training (ITT) recruitment in 2023/24 reached only half of its target, while the rates of teachers leaving have surged back to pre-pandemic levels, with 44 per cent more teachers indicating they intended to leave teaching than in the previous year.

The teacher recruitment crisis has been fuelled by a variety of factors, one of which is the lack of hybrid working or remote work options in predominantly a female-dominated profession. Last year it was revealed by the BBC that women in their 30s are, numerically, the biggest single group leaving teaching, with more than 9,000 of them leaving teaching in England 2022-23, compared with just over 3,400 men of a similar age.

Alongside teachers, Solicitors have seen an increase in demand for jobs with Property Solicitor taking the 2nd spot with an 111% increase in jobs posted, and Employment Solicitor taking 8th spot with 93% increase in job share.

There is also a high demand for healthcare roles, with a Doctor (general medicine registrar) taking 7th spot with 95% growth in jobs, and a Paediatricianplacing 9th with 91% growth. The demand to fill healthcare roles has remained consistent over the past few years, as indicated in Indeed’s 2023 and 2024 Best Jobs lists.

In keeping with the current trend towards demand for AI and ML skills, the 10th spot on the list is taken up by AI/ML Engineer for the first time, which has seen an 86% increase in job postings over the past year.  AI/ML engineers also sit among the highest paid on our 2025 list, ranking 4th at £68,560 per year. This demonstrates that while general commentary suggests that AI will take jobs away from humans, Indeed’s Best Jobs lists shows through the increased demand that AI is creating jobs for people too.

The mix of jobs on this list reflects how workers and industries are evolving together. From the rising demand for empathetic care in teaching and healthcare roles to the continued demand of legal services and the steady increase in AI influence, these opportunities align with where the current skills gaps lie, and what we know jobseekers value most - high salary, demand and opportunity.

For jobseekers, this curated list serves as a valuable compass in today's evolving job market - revealing promising career paths, growth industries, and emerging opportunities they might not have otherwise discovered on their own.

Of those within the top 10 rankings, the jobs with the highest average salaries are Paediatrician (£106,048), followed by Commercial Director (£81,802).

Danny Stacy, Head of Talent Intelligence at Indeed said: “As people begin to make their new years career resolutions, we want to connect employers and jobseekers to better work opportunities by matching candidates with the roles that are right for them.

This list highlights the high demand for essential roles such as teachers, doctors and solicitors, as well as reflecting current emerging industries such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

For jobseekers, this list serves as a valuable compass in today's evolving job market - revealing promising career paths, growth industries, and opportunities they might not have otherwise considered”
