A new online recruiting process, which could be a godsend for personnel and HR managers in companies around the globe, has been developed by a Northern Ireland company.
The system, created by Belfast based AbilityM, is designed to enable employers to quickly and accurately identify suitable candidates for specific jobs ñ without the laborious process of wading through hundreds of letters, CVs and application forms.
AbilityM has developed a psychometric assessment programme specifically for online application. The company says it can provide its clients with a shortlist of candidates whose profile most closely matches the requirements of the position ñ in hours rather than days or weeks.
ìApplicants can take the test directly on our assessment website ñ www.abilitym.com - or we can set it up on the recruiting companyís own site,î says recruitment specialist Richard Watson, AbilityMís founder.
Psychometric testing or assessment has been used for a number of years in larger companies as part of their management selection processes. Candidates fill out a questionnaire containing a large number of multiple choice questions. The answers are interpreted by an expert, usually a psychologist, to give an extremely accurate profile of the candidate.
Now, AbilityM has adapted the procedure for initial employment selection and for online use. ìThere is no wastage, error or delay. We can ensure the client company interviews only the most suitable candidates. And provided they are looking for a job, we can find them anywhere in the world,î says Richard.
ìAnd because much of the assessment process is carried out electronically, finding the right employees is much more economical under this system than it would be using more traditional means.î
The use of the Internet by recruiters and human resources managers to find potential employees is growing rapidly. Currently, more than 90 per cent of companies have used the Internet to try and find staff, compared with only 15 percent three years ago.
AbilityM believes that using their online selection process gives an employer several advantages. They receive a reliable shortlist of candidates almost immediately and their HR and recruitment managers are released from the rigours of having to examine every application personally, with a consequent saving in time and money.
