Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, comments:
“Consumer spending power is increasing, as at last British workers are receiving long-overdue pay rises. This is spurring spending in the service sector, and buoying a healthy housing market. The GDP figures reflect this financial freedom.
“But productivity is also improving from the bottom up, and this will help propel future GDP figures forwards. Employers are investing in their current staff, raising their wages at last, as well as finally spending on the business upgrades they need to raise their game. However, this money must come from somewhere, and new workers are paying the price. Employers are spending less on recruitment, and advertised salaries are becoming less generous in some sectors.”
