With a record number of university students in the Yorkshire and Humber region preparing to receive their exam results and graduate in the coming weeks, Graduates Yorkshire is urging students to consider their career options as soon as possible to beat the current challenging conditions.
Competition from the large number of new graduates, a freeze in public sector recruitment and a private sector still recovering from the recession are all cause for concern for new graduates, but the region’s leading graduate recruitment website, Graduates Yorkshire, believes these factors make it all the more important not to delay the search for work.
Martin Edmondson, Chief Executive of Graduates Yorkshire said: “I am really pleased for the all the students who are set to graduate in the next few weeks. As well as celebrating what they have achieved over the last three or four years I urge graduates to start looking into career options as soon as possible to make sure the skills they have gained at university do not go to waste.”
“The tough conditions mean there is more competition for graduate roles but this should not put graduates off from trying find a role which makes the most of their skills, after all the sooner they start looking, the sooner they are likely to find the role they are looking for.”
“Graduates Yorkshire is a fantastic resource for graduates staying in the region following their degree or for those returning home after university from other parts of the country. Not only do we offer permanent graduate positions but we also offer a range of paid internships to help graduates up skill, as well as mentoring and careers advice.”
Graduates Yorkshire was established with the support of Yorkshire Universities to close the “knowledge gap” between the region’s universities and its business community by matching graduates with companies looking to make best use of that talent.
