Jobcentre Plus and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) will be promoting the valuable role recruitment agencies play in helping jobseekers from professional or executive backgrounds back into work, at an event hosted by Jobcentre Plus today (Thursday 28th January) at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The REC, the professional organisation representing the UK’s private recruitment industry, has a Memorandum of Understanding with Jobcentre Plus and has been assisting in the delivery of the jobsearch support to newly unemployed professionals.

As part of the Government’s response to the economic downturn, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has a compiled a list of approved organisations to deliver specialist jobsearch support to those from executive backgrounds.

The scheme, which went live on 6th April 2009, advises professionals and executives on modern job hunting techniques and how to transfer or update existing skills to secure work.

Philip Curry, the REC’s External Relations Advisor said: This is a practical example showing how the recruitment industry is playing an active role in helping the newly unemployed back into work. More than 50,000 professional jobseekers have been assisted by the programme nationwide which shows that the private recruitment industry, working in tandem with Jobcentre Plus, is playing a vital role in the fight against the recession.

Karen Newman, Communications Manager of Jobcentre Plus Wales said: “By using commercial recruitment agencies, Jobcentre Plus can tap into additional vacancies and access recruitment expertise that can enable professionals to return to the labour market as quickly as possible.
