Onrec: How did you get started in recruitment?
A: I started my first role in recruitment at Michael Page, back in the summer of 2014. I went in looking to register as a candidate and left with an offer for a job as a consultant!
Onrec: You were recently nominated for the Personality of the Year Award at the Onrec Awards in September. Why do you think you were nominated?
A: Must have been a small list this year! I honestly don’t know, but I’m incredibly proud and grateful to have been nominated two years in a row. Makes all the hard work feel worthwhile. Thank You.
Onrec: The recruitment market is very inflated. What are you doing differently to your competitors?
A: I have a simple rule in business; I only work with people I enjoy spending time with. That way, it doesn’t feel like work. My view on business is really simple… don’t chase revenue; make the right choices, do the right thing, each step of the way and the money will come. But more importantly, it’ll be fun along the way.
Onrec: What exciting new trends are you noticing?
A: The ‘old guard’ are losing their grip on the industry and rising up are the forward thinkers, the disruptors, the revolutionaries. And I’m all for it.
Onrec: What do you think will be the next big thing in online recruitment?
A: AI is the obvious answer. The less so obvious, is authenticity. For me that is the next big thing. The authentic you, will always win while those who pretend will fade away.
Onrec: Is AI in recruitment a friend or a foe?
A: Friend.
Onrec: How many people do you employ globally?
A: One, currently – plans to expand to a team of 5 by the end of this year.
Onrec: Where do you see the recruitment industry in 5 years?
A: Firmly operating as a professional service and no longer pretending to be a “sales” business.
Onrec: Do you have any other plans to expand? And if so, where?
A: Not as much where, but more so “into what”. Watch this space.
Onrec: What is one piece of advice you would give your younger self?
A: You are good enough. Don’t let them tell you otherwise. Your time will come when the world catches up. Just wait.
Onrec: What do you enjoy outside of work?
A: Being Super Dad to my two daughters; they’re my purpose.
Onrec: What is your career low and how did you overcome it? And what is your career high?
A: Low – Failure of my recruitment agency and having to let good people go. Overcome it? Acceptance that Failure isn’t fatal and understanding that Success isn’t final. Career High so far?
